Sunny and Jess are real Chincoteague Ponies, "Come out of the Wild" tells the story of their purchase and move from Assateague Island. In this book, we'll see them during training, as they learn to live with and trust their people.
Sunny and Jess are two very real Chincoteague Ponies. In 2-14 they swam the Assateague Channel, paraded down Main Stree, were separated from their dams, and then sold at auction on July 31. They were purchased by Bill and Sue Immen, owners of Grayce Wynds farm in Holden Beach, North Carolina. Since the farm was still under construction, the Immens put their new colts in the care of Debbie Roys Ober, owner of Hawkeye Stables adn CEO of the Chincoteague Pony Rescue (Ridgely, MD). As a service to the new foal owners, she boarded them, gentled them and started their training. Under her direation, Sunny and Jess were introduced to the halter and lead line, farrier care and veterinary care. She build their trust in humans as she nurtured them and intruduced them to new food. Sunny and Jess spent ten months in Ridgeley as they waited for their new "mom" and "dad' to come get them. This is the second book, chronicling their lives as ponies who were born in the wild.
Ms Immen is a retired educator and school counselor. She is a writer, pianist, and designer.
