Sunny and Jess are real-life Chincoteague Ponies. They live at Grayce Wynds Farm near Holden Beach, North Carolina, but were born wild on Assateague Island in 2014. The Virginia wild herd is owned by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, and every July this organization keeps the time-honored tradition of pony penning alive. This event, where privately owned wild horses are gathered, separated, branded, some sold, some released back into the wild, dates back to the early settlers. Sunny and Jess, as wild foals, experienced several round-ups, a parade down Main Street, separation from their parents, and the auction. People from all over the world come to experience this unique event.
